The
development and the survival of automotive industry in Italy,
as in other industrialized countries, critically depend on research
and innovation capabilities. The integration of mechanical engineering
with electronics, with the decisive contribution of control science
and engineering, is the key to explain the spectacular advances
made by motor vehicles in the last decades, concerning emissions,
fuel consumption, safety, diagnostics and comfort, and will be
the key to face with future developments too. In fact, the fossil
fuels depletion, the increased oil price and the need of reducing
carbon dioxide emissions dramatically conflict with an increasing
demand of mobility, posing new and complex challenges to the automotive
industry. In this seminar, an overview on some significant trends
and applications in the field of automotive control will be presented
and discussed. The seminar will provide the opportunity to compare
points of view and experiences, coming both from industry and
university, in two countries, as Japan and Italy, where automotive
industry plays a major role on employment and economic development. Program 9.30 Welcome 9:40
